Little by little we know more details about Ecochallenge, the project with which a consortium of Spanish footwear brands wants to opt for European funds Next Generation EU.A total of 46 companies and technological companies, among which firms such as Pikolinos, Jeanology, Zahonero, Ferre Hilatures, Asti or Grupo Soledad stand out, have joined to shape an initiative that has as its main objective relocate the production of shoes in Spainand, betting on digitalization and sustainability, competing on equal terms with the manufacturing giants of Asia.To do this, Ecomoge intends to develop different actions in the next five years, in which it is estimated to invest around 170 million euros to reach a production of 24 million pairs from the Elche Fabrile Node (Alicante)."Only if there is an advantage in Asia costs we will achieve the target volume," says Ezequiel Sánchez, director of Simplicity Works and Ecochallenge coordinator.

The actions aimed at modernizing and making the footwear industry more competitive will occur in the coming years, either in the form of update in logistics, distribution, integrated value chain management, automated manufacturing, intelligent data management by artificial intelligence or integrationstore-store.One of the first actions that the Ecomochallenge project will be held, scheduled for this year, will be the launch of the Lab Factory or Laboratory Factory. This production center, in which 2.5 million euros will be invested, will give work to more than a hundred professionals and will have the capacity to supply around 600.000 annual shoe pairs. The Lab factory will base its manufacturing model in the technology patented by Simplicity Works, 3D Bonding, which allows the assembly of the pieces of a product in one step, using a mold system and polymer injection. The result is a high quality product, less expensive to manufacture and, at the same time, more resistant.

Another of the most relevant initiatives of the Ecomochallenge project will be the revaluation of waste industry waste. Thanks to the gasification technology of the Ilicitana company Greene Waste to Energy, 50 is aspiring to recycle 50.000 tons of waste a year of the footwear and textile sector, making them added value products such as renewable biofuels, industrial waxes or hydrogen. The reuse of these waste will generate thermal and electrical energy and other added value products.
