"The danger is not in the bags": an expert explains how you can spread in the Super de Covid

  1. elEconomista.es

Since the coronavirus sneaked into our lives, one of the debate objects has been the risk that entails as common as, for example, going to the purchase.Going to a supermarket does not have to be insecure, but it must be done following certain premises.

The professor of the Colorado University José Luis Jiménez, an expert in Aerosols, has given the precise instructions to be able to go to the supermarket without anguish. In an interview with the Paraguayan ABC channel, it stands out that you have to stop paying attention to the surfaces of the objects and products that are bought in those places to take into account the air that is breathed and the aerosols that contain.

"At the beginning of the pandemic it was thought that the surfaces infected a lot and now it is known to infect little. You have to wash your hands and you don't have to spend money on disinfecting things, "explains the expert.Jiménez believes that resources must go in order to achieve better ventilations in supermarkets and "do things that protect us from breathing infected air".

Aerosols transmission referred to by Jiménez has been recently pointed out by Nature as the natural way of contagion. The expert himself mentioned in this interview an article of the scientific publication that clarified that the virus barely infects on the surfaces, since it is left in them is their "corpse", without viral load.

"El peligro no está en las bolsas que uno trae, sino en el aire que se respira en el supermercado", explica Jiménez, que asegura que hay que estar "el menor tiempo posible" en este tipo de lugares y "con una mascarilla muy buen puesta".

In fact, Jiménez has already warned several days ago that wearing a mask adjusted to our contour of the face is very important. The expert, on a Twitter thread, reported that there is no concrete model that best protects the coronavirus, but this will depend on how each face is adjusted. The key is that there are no spaces for which the air can be filtered.

"You have to pay attention to the fact that we do not have any hole," says Jiménez, who also points out that, in the case of surgical masks, a way to save the gaps they can leave in some people can be the use of a second mask (for example, of fabric), so that it closes all the spaces that the first one could not.
