Ubisoft blames players for the poor reception of its NFTs

A few months ago we heard for the first time the news of the arrival of Ubisoft Quartz, the developer's future platform to implement NFTs in their games. However, in the same way that we already saw with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the community was quick to show its strong rejection.

A rejection that, as Ubisoft executives have explained in an interview for the Finder website, is unjustified, even going so far as to defend their proposal by "disparaging" the players, assuring that their negative reaction is simply due to the fact that they "do not understand" the NFTs.

“I think gamers don't understand what a digital secondary market can bring them,” said Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of Ubisoft Strategic Innovations Lab. “For now, due to the current situation and NFT context, gamers really they believe that, firstly, it is destroying the planet, and secondly, it is just a tool for speculation. But what we [at Ubisoft] are looking at first is the endgame. Endgame is all about giving players the opportunity to resell their items once they're done with them or done playing the game itself."

“It's really beneficial for them,” continued Pouard, “But they don't understand it right now. Also, this is part of a paradigm shift in gaming. Moving from one economic system to another is not easy to handle. There are many habits that you have to go against and a lot of your ingrained mindset that you have to change. It takes time. We know."

Ubisoft blames gamers for bad reception of their NFTs

However, gamers are not the only ones who do not share this vision of the future of Ubisoft Quartz, as Kotaku showed, sharing the negative reaction of some employees of the company itself after the official announcement in December.

So for now Ubisoft is sticking with its original plans, releasing these Digits in an exclusive beta phase for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Ubisoft Connect for Windows PC, with three limited editions made up of a fixed number of cosmetic items. in-game that will go from vehicles to weapons, going through pieces of equipment.

Although the company has already announced that its plans will go much further, targeting a complete secondary market.
