First reactions of relatives before the departure of Don Juan Carlos from Spain

Spain attends a historic event. Don Juan Carlos expressed his intention to leave Spain on Monday in a letter written to his son, King Felipe. A decision that was received by the head of state with "profound respect and gratitude" and that has captured the attention of the entire national and international press. Hours after this unprecedented movement, the first reactions of their relatives begin to arrive.

Simoneta Gómez-Acebo, Duchess of Badajoz and daughter of the Infanta Pilar, has been the first to publish on her social networks. Don Juan Carlos's niece published an image of her uncle in which "Long live Don Juan Carlos" and "Long live Spain" could be read. Among the hashtags you could read "without words", "all my admiration and respect", "all my thanks" and "what a sad day for Spain".

It must be remembered that it was precisely Simoneta Gómez-Acebo who on June 2, 2019 accompanied Don Juan Carlos in his last act before his retirement from public life. It was during a bullfight in Aranjuez that the Infanta Doña Pilar, who died last January, also attended; the infanta Elena with her son, Felipe de Marichalar; and Fernando Gómez-Acebo, brother of Simoneta.

María Zurita, daughter of the Infanta Margarita and first cousin of King Felipe, has also used her social networks to speak out and has done so with an image of King Juan Carlos, dressed in the uniform of a Captain General of the Army and with the word GREEN that corresponds to the acronym of "Long live the King of Spain". An acronym that, hours after the decision of Don Juan Carlos was made known, became a trend in our country on Twitter. Cari Lapique, Carmen Lomana, Vicky Martín Berrocal or Rocío Peralta have reacted to this message, among others, who have sent their support to King Juan Carlos through the network profile of his niece.

Given the discretion with which the relatives of Don Juan Carlos are handled on social networks, so far only the publications of his nieces have transpired. Now all eyes are on Mallorca where the first appearance of a member of the King's family is expected after the unexpected announcement of the departure of Don Juan Carlos. Everything indicates that Queen Sofia is on the Balearic island, accompanied by her sister, Princess Irene. Next weekend, the arrival of Kings Felipe and Letizia, and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, is expected.
