Loida Hernández: «Music saved my life» | Canaries7

RAFAEL FALCON

Success has accompanied her together with her sister Gara in the musical duo K-Narias, but Loida Hernández Rubio wanted to capture in a book her childhood, her adolescence, her life in Añaza, her concerns, etc. 'What is convenient happens' is an intimate, tender, melancholic, funny book, even crude. It is the story of a life full of silence that will no longer be. This publication that you can already find in your kiosk or through Amazon seeks to inspire people to dare to achieve their dreams, ignoring their origin or the adversities that arise along the way.

It has both heartbreaking and surprising moments. "She had been thinking about the idea of writing this book for a year and a half," says the artist. «For five years I have been going to a psychologist and in one of the therapy sessions she told me that it would be good if I could write what is in my head, to drop all that garbage. I realized that when I started writing it did me good and meant personal therapy. My childhood and adolescence were not easy, and that trauma was only known to my close people. I think it was time to tell the chaos that I had inside and for the whole world to know it to free me. It was like a desire for freedom, to let go of chains, to be myself, and I have achieved it, ”he highlights.

The acceptance of the book is being very good and Loida is very satisfied with the response she is getting from all those who have already read her work. «The sale is going super well and I feel free. It has been like going back to my past, reviewing everything and knowing who I am today. Reading it no longer hurts me, it's as if my wounds from writing the book have healed," he reflects emotionally.

In this book, Loida Hernández not only breaks the silence and gives visibility to the hidden secrets that are hidden behind a prefabricated mask for success, but also gives voice to the fight against machismo, abuse, exclusion and what the social rejection of living a childhood in a marginal neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife such as Añaza means.

'What is convenient happens' is a book that seeks to inspire them to discover something more about themselves through their story, in which many will feel reflected in one way or another. The book touches on sensitive issues but ones that need to be dealt with openly, honestly and with empathy. They are topics such as bullying, drug addiction, abandonment, self-confidence, toxic love and sexuality, among other things. The story of the childhood and youth of the singer and dancer also culminates with a shocking closure that shrinks and leaves the reader expectant, who will be left wanting to continue discovering a moving story that will continue to develop in the chapters of a second part.

To relate all this, she herself confesses to C7 that there is “a why. I came to music not because yes. My refuge was music, it was my salvation. I was very shy, stuttered and had a hard time expressing myself, but my greatest way of expression was music. Music saved my life and when they read the book they will understand it, "he warns.

Loida Hernández: «Music saved me life» | Canarias7

In this publication, Loida reveals things with a huge emotional charge. Her sister, her twin, Gara de ella, at first, as the author herself admitted to us, «had it a little badly. There are family things that I reserve, but when I explained to everyone the need I had to be able to write all that and drop ballast, they understood it, and it has brought us closer together, ”he comments.

ONE STEP FORWARD

Loida dares to reveal for the first time life beyond the stage, her childhood and adolescence, and the beginning of the path that will lead her and her twin sister to begin a career full of success, in the world of music, but that also coexists with failure and less glamorous moments. The beginning of that story, the embryo of everything, is what was developed in this autobiography entitled 'What is convenient happens' and that will not leave any reader indifferent, regardless of whether they know the trajectory of the K-Narias or not, but that for his fans it will be a gateway to the story behind the spotlight and stardom. 'What is convenient happens' brings us closer to the person of flesh and blood that few know to distance us from the media character.

Growing up in a neighborhood like Añaza, the book collects experiences that left a mark on her for life, but making it clear that those stories are what keep her from denying her roots and fighting so that her neighborhood is known in a different way. We all have a past that influences us and that sometimes has not been an easy period of life. From this point of view, the book makes us empathize with a painful reality, although real, and delves us into the power to overcome that lives in each person.

This autobiography wants to be one more voice that joins other voices that push us to reconsider many daily issues related to violence against women, marginalization and poverty, while inquiring into issues that are the foundation of all human relationships, family, love and friendship. “I hope the book can inspire other people and that they can relate to it. Añaza is part of my life and it has been a great learning experience for me. Living in a marginal neighborhood, with deprivations and poverty gives you other qualities and another way of seeing life. Añaza was so important because I have known how to resolve matters when I was older with a different temperance and I have gotten out of difficult situations due to the learning I had from my childhood and youth. Añaza has been a university of life, with situations that have marked you and are very hard, but which I have turned around. I have felt discriminated against for being from Añaza, especially in my adolescence, but I have been able to transform those frustrating feelings into positive ones and know who I am. I have always said that those stray bullets from childhood or youth are broken hearts for me”, he affirms with emotion.

The end of the book is very powerful and leaves the door open for a second part because it still has much more to tell. The K-Narias have been linked to fame, glamour, the success of their songs and the following of their fans, but the road to reach that peak has not been easy. She faces things with integrity, her smile captivates and she is a woman with her feet on the ground and who, together with her sister Gara, continues to want to continue offering the art that they carry inside with K-Narias.

'What is convenient happens' is having a good sales rhythm. «It can be purchased through Amazon, but also in bookstores as I like. In Gran Canaria in Canaima, Yaya (Arucas) and in the Vecindario bookstore; in Lanzarote in Books&Papers at the Deiland Shopping Center; in Santa Cruz de La Palma on Papyrus; and in Tenerife in Agapea, both in Santa Cruz and La Orotava, and in Librería de Mujeres in Santa Cruz. I am very happy with the acceptance of the people. I have gone to a couple of presentations and as always everyone is very affectionate with me, “he highlights.

She's like a girl in new shoes with her baby in her hands. This book means a lot to her and it is what she has wanted to capture from the beginning. «Whoever reads 'What is convenient happens' will find the origin of everything. There are people who know how they discovered us, how they discovered K-Narias, but they don't know the beginning of the beginning. That's exactly what I'm talking about here. That is why I have chosen the title of the book. After all, I have learned that what has happened to me in life, no matter how painful, no matter how traumatic it was, has led me to be the person I am today. Probably, without that childhood of poverty, lack, abuse and ill-treatment, I would not have been who I am today, both Loida, the person, and Loida, that of K-Narias».

NEXT MUSICAL

But apart from this publication, K-Narias is still very much alive, although this pandemic has made them reflect. «The world stopped and the situation for all artists became chaotic. At that moment we connect with the essence and I think we don't have to be living so fast or demand so much of ourselves. Many times we were in a loop where we didn't realize things and now the time has come to take a deep breath and start a new project. Loida told C7 that “we are working on a musical of our lives. The intention is that it sees the light of day before next summer, but it is very difficult to predict anything today," he says. The musical will be called 'From the neighborhood to fame', something that has a lot to do with the plot of his book, in which he narrates many vicissitudes of his day to day with enormous integrity.

He is now in a creative process. First with the book, and already thinking about the second part, and right now with the musical, but both Loida and Gara are two restless women with an enormous social commitment. This January both will give a musical theater course at the Tenerife II women's prison in collaboration with the General Society of Authors and Publishers. Both studied Interpretation and now they are going to translate their experience to the prisoners of the prison "in an initiative that excites us," they emphasize.

'What is convenient happens' has served as a motor and impulse for Loida and also for her sister Gara. They have opened their hearts and after reading the book one gets goosebumps to see the effort that both have had to make to be where they are and dignify their profession with enormous respect.

K-Narias, with their visual staging and an impressive live show, have earned a relevant place in the national and international music scene that has taken them to different areas of great relevance, such as their performances for the players of the NBA in San Juan, Puerto Rico, or at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, at the Latin Grammy Awards party in Chicago, or at the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York. They have raised the flag of the Canary Islands around the world and are now in a stage of reflection that has served them to lick wounds and at the same time to show that dreams can be fulfilled with a lot of dedication and effort, as well as with a mental strength that will captivate to the readers of 'Whatever is convenient happens'.
